The BSE Sensex ended the day on red note after trading in green. The small cap and the mid cap index outperformed the broader markets. The turnover volumes were not very convincing but the advances outpaced the decliners.
Finally, BSE Sensex closed at 13,183.24 with a decline of 6.30 points. The NSE Nifty advanced by 14.5 points to close at 3862.65. Overall, the market breadth was strong as 1529 stocks were closed in green whereas 1038 were ended up in red zone while 64 stocks remained unchanged in BSE.
BSE Mid cap and BSE Small cap indices grew by 55.55 points and 54.77 points at 5,517.06 and 6,711.51 respectively.
BSE Metal index closed 330.86 points up at 9,330.87 as NALCO, Hindalco and Tata Steel inclined by grew by 6.43%, 4.40% and 3.29% respectively.
BSE Capital goods index inclined by 102.41 points at 9,342.38 as BHEL grew by 1.22% while Siemens 0.26%, ABB 0.27% and L&T 0.12% ended lower.
BSE FMCG index closed at 1,811.58 down by 1.14 points as HLL fell by 1.68% while ITC and Dabur grew by 0.41% and 0.16% respectively.
BSE oil & gas index closed at 6,540.71 up by 25.74 points as BPCL (4.82%), HPCL (1.53%), ONGC (0.79%) closed higher while RIL declined by 0.21%.
BSE IT index closed 20.25 points down at 4,808.08 as Satyam (0.84%), HCLTech. (0.67%), TCS (0.54%), Infosys (0.29%), Wipro (0.25%), and ended in red.
BSE bank index fell 46.45 points at 6,552.14: HDFC Bank (1.19%), PNB (1.06%), SBI (0.86%), IDBI Bank (0.51%) ended in red while ICICI Bank (0.13%) ended in green.
BSE Auto Index increased by 6.07 points at 4,700.34 as Tata Motors (0.11%), Bajaj (0.46%)and Hero Honda (0.06%) ended in green whereas M&M (0.48%) and Maruti (0.50%) ended in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,677.38 down by 24.08 points as Ranbaxy 3.49% and Dr.Reddy''s lab 2.59% ended in red where as Cipla closed in green by 1.07%.
