The BSE Sensex closed the session with a positive inspiring note as it surged by 172.40 points to close at 14,299.71 while Nifty closed higher by 48.6 points at 4,219.55. Of the 2,685 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,272 stocks advanced while 1,337 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 47.46 points and 6.60 points at 6,088.79 and 7,212.56 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index closed higher by 52.99 points at 10,135.92 as BHEL (1.15%), L&T (0.62%) and ABB (0.59%) ended in green while Siemens (1.01%) ended in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10364.83 up by 39.57 points as Tata Steel (1.51%), SAIL (0.29%) and Hindalco (0.10%) closed in green while NALCO (1.56%) ended in red.
BSE bank index closed higher by 124.93 points at 7538.25 as SBI (3.40%), ICICI bank (1.81%), PNB (0.44%) and HDFC bank (0.23%) ended in green.
BSE Auto Index closed lower by 41.42 points at 5003.68 as Bajaj (6.71%) closed in red while Tata motors (2.16%), Maruti Udyog (1.60%) and M&M (1.12%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,732.38 up by 10.45 points as Dr. Reddy lab (2.19%), Sun Pharma (0.25%) and Ranbaxy (0.20%) closed higher while GSK (1.83%) and Cipla (0.67%) closed lower.
BSE oil & gas index closed in positive territory at 7,579.70 surged by 178.14 points as HPCL (3.35%), BPCL (3.24%), IPCL (2.97%), Reliance petroleum (2.07%) and ONGC (1.02%) ended in green.
BSE IT index closed at 4,914.42 grew by 67.35 points as Patni Computers (7.98%), HCL (2.71%), TCS (1.95%), Infosys (1.62%) and Wipro (0.94%) closed in positive.
BSE FMCG index closed higher by 20 points at 1,858.68 as Dabur (1.67%) and ITC (1.20%) closed in green while HLL (1.14%) closed in red.
