The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive note as it closed up by 47.54 points at 14,130.95 while Nifty closed higher by 9.6 points at 4,155.20. Of the 2,581 stocks actively traded on BSE, 824 stocks advanced while 1,677 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed lower by 45.08 points and 91.13 points at 6,084.40 and 7,228.88 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index closed marginally lower by 6.68 points at 10,856.32 as Siemens (1.45%) and Punj Lloyd (1.53%) closed in red while L&T (0.85%), ABB (0.55%) and BHEL (0.19%) closed in green.
BSE bank index closed higher by 25.97 points at 7,453.52 as UTI Bank (4.13%) and ICICI bank (1.90%) closed in green while BOI (4.24%), PNB (2.55%), HDFC bank (1.09%) and SBI (0.59%) closed in red.
BSE Auto Index closed lower by 57.67 points at 4,646.26 as M&M (3.27%), Maruti Udyog (1.98%), Tata motors (1.60%) and Bajaj Auto (0.62%) closed in red while Hero Honda (0.96%) closed higher.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,359.92 surged by 101.18 points as Tata Steel (4.03%) and SAIL (2.96%) closed in green while Hindalco (1.03%) and Nalco (0.47%) closed in red.
BSE IT index closed lower by 39.60 points at 4,975.50 as Satyam computers (3.78%), HCL Tech (1.92%), Patni computers (1.31%) and Wipro (0.61%) closed in red while Infosys (0.34%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,739.84 fell by 11.80 points as Dr. Reddy lab (2.25%), Cipla (1.40%), Ranbaxy labs (0.30%) and Sun pharma (0.25%) closed lower.
BSE FMCG index closed marginally up by 0.13 points at 1,790.06 as Dabur (1.37%) and HLL (0.69%) closed in green while ITC (0.10%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed higher by 76.74 points at 7,490.71 as BPCL (2.40%), IPCL (1.19%) and HPCL (1.17%) closed in green
