The BSE Sensex ended the session on a strong positive note as it closed higher by 375.21 points at 15,307.98 while Nifty grew by 105.75 points to close at 4,462.10. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 90.77 points and 136.85 points to close at 6,665.67 and 8,051.22 respectively. Of the 2,724 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,978 stocks advanced while 696 stocks declined.
BSE IT index increased by 189.96 points to close at 4,808.43 as HCL technologies (6.36%), Infosys (4.73%), TCS (4.13%), Wipro (3.69%), Satyam (3.52%) and Patni computers (1.68%) closed in green.
BSE bankex index closed up by 147.20 points at 8,076.32 as PNB (3.22%), Allahabad bank (3.15%), HDFC Bank (2.57%), ICICI bank (1.50%) and SBI (1.35%) closed in positive while Yes bank (1.26%) closed in negative.
BSE Capital goods index grew by 228 points to close at 13,032.66 as BHEL (2.43%), Siemens (2.16%), ABB (2.04%) and L&T (1.62%) closed higher.
BSE Metal index improved by 180.16 points to close at 11,222.02 as Hindalco industries (3.19%), SAIL (2.62%), Sterlite Industries (1.61%), Tata steel (1.24%) are closed in positive.
BSE oil & gas index increased by 244.20 points at 7,804.55 as IPCL (3.53%), ONGC (2.26%), BPCL (1.95%), HPCL (1.25%), Reliance petroleum (1.27%) and GAIL (0.93%) are closed higher.
BSE FMCG index closed higher by 16.73 points at 1,953.80 as Dabur (1.77%), HUL (1.37%) and ITC (0.30%) closed higher.
BSE Auto Index grew by 66.94 points to close at 4,810.74 as Hero Honda (3.49%), Mahindra and Mahindra (1.66%), Bajaj Auto (1.56%), Maruti Udyog (1.54%) and Tata Motors (0.58%) closed higher.
BSE Health Care Index closed higher by 44.43 points at 3,671.59 as Ranbaxy (3.44%), Sun pharma (2.84%), GlaxoSmithKline (1.80%) and Glennmark (1.30%) closed higher while Dr Reddy lab (0.82%) and Cipla (0.40%) closed lower.
