End Session Market Commentary

The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it closed lower by 231.90 points at 14,868.25 while Nifty decreased by 69.85 points to close at 4,333.35. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed lower by 51.96 points and 59.99 points to close at 6,507.62 and 7,964.12 respectively. Of the 2,660 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,591 stocks declined while 1,023 stocks advanced.

BSE IT index closed higher by 40.28 points at 4,774.13 as HCL technologies (3.80%), Satyam (2.63%), Infosys (0.84%) and wipro (0.47%) closed in green while TCS (0.13%) closed in red.

BSE bankex index closed lower by 201.77 points at 7,773.71 as PNB (2.85%), ICICI bank (2.76%), SBI (2.57%) and HDFC Bank (2.05%) closed lower while IDBI Bank (0.39%) closed higher.

BSE Capital goods index dropped by 115.37 points to close at 12,768.35 as ABB (2.94%), Siemens (2.42%), BHEL (2.22%) and L&T (0.79%) closed in negative.

BSE Metal index decreased by 255.26 points to close at 10,863.61 as Hindalco industries (3.11%), Sterlite Industries (2.83%), Tata steel (2.54%), JSW steel (1.26%) and Jindal Saw (1.22%) and SAIL (0.53%) closed in negative.

BSE oil & gas index slipped by 135.19 points to close at 7,755.96 as GAIL (2.76%), ONGC (2.74%), IPCL (1.44%), BPCL (0.91%) and HPCL (0.49%) closed lower while Reliance petroleum (0.22%) closed higher.

BSE FMCG index closed lower by 16.98 points at 1,903.05 as HUL (2.69%), Dabur (0.63%) and ITC (0.46%) closed in red.

BSE Auto Index decreased by 32.75 points to close at 4,736.40 as Hero Honda (2.74%), Mahindra and Mahindra (2.53%) and Maruti Udyog (2.24%) closed in red while Bajaj Auto (1.21%) and Tata Motors (0.91%) closed in green.

BSE Health Care Index fell by 50.19 points at 3,601.09 as Glennmark (3.80%), Cipla (1.73%), Ranbaxy (1.02%) and Dr Reddy lab (0.81%) closed lower while Sun pharma (2.24%) and GlaxoSmithKline (0.36%) closed higher.
