End Session Market Commentary

The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it closed lower by 216.69 points at 14,141.52 while Nifty decreased by 70.55 points to close at 4,108.05. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap slipped by 92.97 points and 102.46 to close at 6,259.47 and 7,694.80 respectively. Of the 2,719 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,833 stocks declined while 854 stocks advanced.

BSE Metal index decreased by 488 points to close at 9,811.61 as JSW Steel (7.55%), Sterlite Industries (7.47%), Tata steel (5.40%), SAIL (3.98%), Hindalco industries (3.65%) and Nalco (1.60%) closed in negative.

BSE Auto Index slipped by 101.32 points to close at 4,560.85 as Tata Motors (3.34%), Hero Honda (2.78%), Bajaj Auto (2.57%), Maruti Udyog (1.40%), Mahindra and Mahindra (1.25%) closed in red.

BSE oil & gas index dropped by 77.44 points to close at 7,427.15 as HPCL (8.57%), GAIL (4.85%), ONGC (4.41%), BPCL (2.53%) and Reliance petroleum (1.36%) closed in negative while IPCL (0.91%) closed in positive.

BSE bankex index closed lower by 69.96 points at 7,351.37 as Andhra Bank (3.13%), HDFC Bank (2.26%), ICICI bank (0.76%) and SBI (0.14%) closed in red while BOI (1.10%), and PNB (0.16%) closed in green.

BSE Capital goods index fell by 184.66 points to close at 12,029.90 as ABB (3.36%), BHEL (2.75%), Praj industries (2.47%), L&T (0.61%) closed lower while Siemens (0.43%) closed higher.

BSE Health Care Index ended lower by 39.65 points at 3,487.30 as Ranbaxy (2.29%), GlaxoSmithKline (1.61%), Dr Reddy lab (1.02%) and Glennmark (0.97%) closed in red while Sun pharma (2.20%) and Cipla (0.25%) closed in green.

BSE FMCG index decreased by 43.44 points to close at 1,811.66 as HUL (2.04%), Tata Tea (1.75%) and Dabur (0.20%) closed in red.

BSE IT index closed lower by 136.73 points at 4,500.40 as Satyam (5.81%), TCS (2.91%), Infosys (2.91%), HCL technologies (2.48%) closed in negative while Wipro (1.31%) closed in positive.
