End Session Market Commentary

The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it closed lower by 438.44 points at 13,989.11 while Nifty declined by 134.15 points to close at 4,074.90. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap slipped by 208.55 points and 293.91 to close at 6,134.23 and 7,538.45 respectively. Of the 2,767 stocks actively traded on BSE, 2,235 stocks declined while 494 stocks advanced.

BSE Metal index declined by 351.90 points to close at 9,847.15 as JSW Steel (6.55%), Tata steel (3.99%), Hindalco industries (3.88%), Nalco (3.49%), Sterlite Industries (3.15%) and SAIL (1.96%) closed in negative.

BSE Auto Index dropped by 123.90 points to close at 4,475.14 as Mahindra and Mahindra (4.67%), Bajaj Auto (2.97%), Tata Motors (2.35%), Hero Honda (1.99%) and Maruti Udyog (1.82%) closed in red.

BSE oil & gas index slipped by 212.89 points to close at 7,408.02 as GAIL (5.57%), ONGC (3.50%), Reliance petroleum (3.08%), IPCL (2.88%), BPCL (2.79%) and HPCL (1.14%) closed lower.

BSE bankex index closed lower by 338.15 points at 7,324.30 as BOI (5.65%), Andhra Bank (5.62%), SBI (5.59%), ICICI bank (4.78%), PNB (2.84%) and HDFC Bank (1.88%) closed in red.

BSE Capital goods index fell by 340.40 points to close at 11,989.97 as Siemens (5.68%), Praj industries (5.18%), ABB (3.89%), L&T (1.92%) and BHEL (1.24%) closed lower.

BSE Health Care Index ended lower by 108.17 points at 3,430.42 as GlaxoSmithKline (3.77%), Cipla (3.75%), Ranbaxy (3.56%), Glennmark (3.58%), Sun pharma (2.06%) and Dr Reddy lab (0.12%) closed in negative.

BSE FMCG index decreased by 45.17 points to close at 1,799.05 as ITC (2.59%), HUL (2.52%) and Tata Tea (0.86%) closed in red while Dabur (0.25%) closed in green.

BSE IT index closed lower by 164.21 points at 4,294.86 as HCL technologies (5.56%), Wipro (4.83%), Infosys (3.72%), Satyam (3.71%) and TCS (3.63%) closed lower.
