Post Session Market

The Indian market closed in the deep negative territory today with the BSE Sensex closed below the physiological mark of 16000 and the NSE Nifty settled below the 4800 mark. The market tumbled since the initial bell tracking the weak cues from the global market and kept on hovering in the negative territory throughout the trading session. Also, the rising of inflation to 5.02% in the week ended February 2008 adds to the negative sentiments in the market. The inflation grew to nine months high due to rise in prices of fruits, vegetables and oil seeds. From the sectoral front, the Capital Goods, Metal, Realty and Bank stocks were the worst performer as heavy selling witnessed from these baskets. The Mid Cap and Small Cap also followed the benchmark indices as they closed with heavy losses of 309.79 points and 400.61 points at 6,804.39 and 8,409.18 respectively. The BSE Sensex closed lower by 566.56 points at 15,975.52 and NSE Nifty fell by 149.80 points to close at 4,771.60.

The Capital Goods index declined 663.28 points to close at 14,025.12. Major losers are Punj Lloyd (7.06%), L&T (6.64%), Praj Industries (6.11%) and Siemens (5.88%).

The Realty index closed lower by 553.10 points at 7,782.38 as Ansal Infra (13.25%), HDIL (12.93%), Unitech (9.90%), Sobha Developers (8.91%), Purvankara (7.60%) closed lower.

The Bankex index slipped by 438.57 points to close at 8,477.46. Losers are Yes Bank (11.46%), ICICI Bank (7.04%), Union Bank (6.87%), AXIX Bank (6.58%), CBOP (6.52%).

The Oil and Gas index closed down by 307.84 points at 10,022.91 as RNRL (11.31%), RPL (5.42%), Essar Oil (5.20%), Indian Oil (4.22%), BPCL (3.28%) closed lower.

The IT index decreased by 114.03 points to 3,638.44, Financial Technologies (6.65%), Patni Computers (5.76%), Tech Mahindra (4.34%), TCS (3.20%), Wipro (3.64%) and Infosys (2.85%) closed in red.

The Auto index dropped by 215.16 points at 4,634.70, as Bajaj Auto (11.23%), TVS Motor (5.69%), M&M (4.52%), Tata Motors (4.40%) are ended in negative.
