The markets have lost further grounds and are not showing any signs of recovery. The markets are trading in deep red as selling pressure continued across the board. Leading to the fall are the IT, Realty, Metal and Oil & Gas stocks. The Banking index is now trading with a deep cut of more than 3% and has outperformed the benchmark index, which is now trading with a cut of less than 3%. The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 14500 mark and the NSE Nifty below the 4400 mark. The BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap are also trading with a cut of more or less of 1% each.
On the economic front, the annual inflation has slowed for the second straight week as it slipped to 12.34% for the week ended August 23 from 12.40% a week earlier according to the data released by the government after trading hours on Thursday, 4 September 2008.
The overall market breadth remains negative as 776 stocks are advancing while 1526 stocks are declining and the 86 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.
The BSE Mid cap is lower by 67.06 points at 5,762.11 and the BSE small Cap slipped by 55.42 points to trade at 6,918.65.
At 12.30 pm, BSE Sensex was at 14,487.71 down by 411.39 points and the NSE Nifty was at 4,343.10 down by 104.65 points.
BSE Bankex index is trading lower by 202.58 points at 7,232.15. Losers are HDFC Bank (3.86%), ICICI Bank (3.37%), PNB (3.04%) and SBI (2.27%).
BSE IT index declined by 124.71 points to trade at 3,960.99 as Wipro (4.41%), Infosys Technologies (3.94%), Satyam Computer (3.73%) and HCL Technologies (2.54%) trading in negative.
BSE Metal index dropped by 286.96 points at 11,895.94 as Sterlite Industries (3.65%), Tata Steel (2.96%), SAIL (2.79%) and NALCO (2.41%) are trading in red.
BSE Capital goods index slipped by 154.17 points to 12,034.01. The main losers are Siemens (2.27%), L&T (1.97%), BHEL (1.09%) and ABB (0.31%).
BSE Oil & Gas index was trading 221.92 points lower at 9,622.73 as Cairn India (3.93%), ONGC (1.51%), Gail India (0.94%) and RPL (0.88%) are trading in negative.
BSE Realty index slipped by 106.65 points to 5,089.07. The major losers are India Bull Real (4.82%), Unitech (3.18%), DLF (3.66%) and Mahindra Life (1.88%).
BSE Auto index decreased by 59.02 points to 3,981.93. The top losers are Maruti Suzuki (4.25%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.22%), Tata Motors (1.67%) and Hero Honda (1.33%).
BSE Power index decreased by 28.55 points to 2,627.04. Losers are Power Grid (2.89%), Tata Power (2.07%), Suzlon Energy (1.43%) and NTPC (0.63%)
