Mid Session Market - Oct 6, 2008

The markets have lost further grounds and are trading at day’s low as strong selling pressure continued across the board mainly led by the Realty, Metal, Power, IT and Capital Goods stocks. All the BSE Sensex stocks are trading in red. The BSE Sensex is trading below the 12000 mark and the NSE Nifty is below the 3700. The BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap stocks are also trading lower with a cut of more than 4% each.

On the global market front, the Asian markets are trading lower as Nikkei 225 index trading down by 2.92% and Hang Seng index lower by 2.75%.

The overall market breadth is negative as 280 stocks are advancing while 1979 stocks are declining and the 39 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.

Tata Power reported the top loser from the BSE Sensex pack as it was trading down by (12.88%) at Rs.774.10 followed by Jai Prakash Associate down by (11.54%) at Rs.102.70.

The BSE Mid cap is lower by 232.47 points at 4,445.33 and the BSE small Cap slipped by 242.31 points to trade at 5,223.09.

At 12.31 pm, BSE Sensex was at 11,985.72 down by 540.60 points and the NSE Nifty was at 3,650.35 down by 167.95 points.

BSE Metal index dropped by 585.38 points at 7,831.73 as Jindal Steel (12.53%), Sterlite Industries (9.92%), Tata Steel (8.72%), Nalco (6.29%) and Gujarat NRE (5.83%) are trading in red.

BSE Bankex index is trading lower by 189.15 points at 6,239.80. Losers are Kotak Bank (5.82%), IDBI Bank (4.19%), ICICI Bank (3.84%) and HDFC Bank (3.17%).

BSE Auto index declined by 30.33 points to 3,623.92. Leading to its fall are Ashok Leyland (3.70%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.58%), Hero Honda (1.39%) and Maruti Suzuki (0.10%).

BSE Oil & Gas index is trading 232.14 points lower at 8,194.53 as Aban Offshore (12.02%), Cairn India (9.95%), Essar Oil (6.78%) and RNRL (4.05%) are trading in negative.

BSE Capital goods index slipped by 485.24 points to 9,753.75. The main losers are Praj Industries (11%), Punj Lloyd (7.70%), BHEL (6.81%), L&T (4.79%).
L&T Infotech Ltd, a leading global IT services and solutions provider and a wholly-owned subsidiary of L&T, has signed a partner agreement with Astea International Inc , the leader in service lifecycle management and mobility solutions. The agreement will provide L&T Infotech’s deep IT services expertise and system integration experience with Astea’s global service management and mobility solutions.

BSE IT index declined by 152.20 points to trade at 2,958.08 as Patni Computer (7.35%), Infosys Technologies (5.96%), TCS (5.95%) and HCL Technologies (5.13%) trading in negative.
India’s Infosys Technologies is on an expansion mode and is planning to expand its consuluting business via acquisitions.

BSE Power index was trading 120.49 points lower at 2,107.19. The main losers are GVK Power (13.65%),.Tata Power (12.22%), Suzlon Energy (7.43%), Reliance Power (5.49%).

BSE Realty index slipped by 235.66 points to 3,094.19. The major losers are Unitech (9.50%), DLF (9.19%), HDIL (6.88%), Mahindra Life (6.72%) and Parsavnath (5.66%).
