Mid Session Market - Oct 8, 2008

The markets have managed to recover a bit from the day’ low but are still lower. The selling pressure continued across the board mainly led by the Metal, IT, Realty, Banking, Capital Goods and Power stocks. The Consumer Durable index has under performed the benchmark index today as it is trading with a loss of more than 13%.The BSE Sensex is now hovering around the 11000 mark and the NSE Nifty is below the 3450 mark. The BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap stocks are also trading lower with a cut of more than 8% each.

On the global market front, the Asian markets are trading with a deep cut as Nikkei 225 index trading down by 9.38% and Hang Seng index down by 7.04%. The European markets also open sharply lower as the FTSE, CAC and DAX dropped by more than 2% each.The overall market breadth is negative as 179 stocks are advancing while 2152 stocks are declining and the 35 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.Sterlite Industries reported the top loser from the BSE Sensex pack as it was trading down by (14.03%) followed by Satyam Computer down by (12.17%).

The BSE Mid cap is lower by 369.47 points at 3,887.69 and the BSE small Cap slipped by 392.68 points to trade at 4,583.71.At 12.31 pm, BSE Sensex was at 11,004.07 down by 691.17 points and the NSE Nifty was at 3,414.25 down by 192.35 points.BSE Metal index dropped by 778.64 points at 6,755.39 as JSW Steel (16.77%), Gujarat NRE (16.77%), Jindal Saw (13.97%), Sterlite Industries (14.03%) and Jindal Steel (8.83%) are trading in red.BSE Bankex index is trading lower by 597.32 points at 5,441.93. Losers are AXIS Bank (13.09%), ICICI Bank (11.09%), Bank of India (9.32%) and Kotak Bank (8.11%).BSE Auto index declined by 193.21 points to 3,318.75. Leading to its fall are Ashok Leyland (7.72%), Tata Motors (5.64%), Maruti Suzuki (5.22%), Hero Honda (3.62%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.11%).BSE Oil & Gas index is trading 655.49 points lower at 7,356.69 as Aban Offshore (17.95%), Essar Oil (13.16%), Indian Oil (8.79%), HPCL (8.60%) and Gail India (8.30%) are trading in negative.BSE Capital goods index slipped by 754.61 points to 8,372.91.

The main losers are Gammon India (12.51%), Havells India (10.17%), Praj Industries (9.84%), Punj Lloyd (9.89%).BSE IT index declined by 259.25 points to trade at 2,581.05 as Patni Computer (12.92%), Satyam Computer (12.17%), TCS (10.21%) and Wipro (10.88%) are trading in negative.BSE Power index was trading 175.64 points lower at 1,898.62. The main losers are Suzlon Energy (15.81%),.Torent Power (8.16%), Reliance Power (7.03%), Tata Power (6.98%). BSE Realty index slipped by 314.25 points to 2,627.47. The major losers are HDIL (16.17%), India Bull Real (16.92%), Mahindra Life (13.46%) and Parsavnath.
