Post Session Market Commentary

After a firm opening, the market gained momentum to end the trading session in positive territory. The action in several indices towards the close saw the BSE sensex surge to an intra day high of 13,762.92.The BSE sensex ended the session with gains of 65.15 points at 13,672.19 while the Nifty added 26.65 points to close at 4011.60. The breadth of the market was strong. Of the 2661 stocks traded on BSE, 1341 advanced, 1232 stocks declined and 88 stocks ended unchanged.

BSE Mid cap and BSE Small cap indices closed higher by 32.20 points and 45.97 points to close at 5,653.45 and 6,908.50.

BSE oil & gas index closed at 6,866.77 up by 40.41 points as ONGC 1.64%, IPCL 0.77% and IOCL 0.34% ended in green whereas BPCL (3.86%), HPCL (2.14%), Essar oil (0.62%) closed in negative.

BSE IT index inched by 27.52 points to close at 5,050.15 as HCL Tech 7.22%, Wipro 2.09% and Satyam 1.25% closed higher while TCS (0.21%) and Infosys (0.18%) closed in red.

BSE FMCG index closed at 1,801.83 up by 1.34 points as Dabur advanced by 5.16% and ITC gained by 0.61% whereas HLL fell (1.21%) ended in red.

BSE Capital goods index lost ground by 10.65 points to close at 9,678.17 as Siemens (4.65%), L&T (0.59%) and ABB (0.39%) closed in red zone while BHEL advanced by 0.48% to close in green.

BSE bank index grew 72.22 points at 6,810.72 as HDFC Bank 0.64%, PNB 1.52%, SBI 2.65%, IDBI Bank 0.73% and ICICI Bank 0.82% ended in green.

BSE Metal index closed lower by 22.29 points at 9,415.02 as Tata Steel (3.27%) closed in negative whereas Hindalco 1.33%, SAIL 1.29%, and Nalco 0.70% closed in green.
