The BSE Sensex closed the session on an inspiring note as it surged by 197.98 points to close at 14,127.31 while Nifty closed higher by 50.65 points at 4,170.95. Of the 2,679 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,626 stocks advanced while 987 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 85.98 points and 103.08 points at 6,041.33 and 7,205.96 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index closed higher by 148.87 points at 10082.93 as BHEL (3.02%), L&T (2.29%), ABB (0.66%) and Siemens (0.44%) ended in green.
BSE Metal index closed at 10325.26 up by 70.93 points as Hindalco (2.51%), NALCO (2.26%) and SAIL (1.85%) closed in green while Tata Steel (0.53%) ended in red.
BSE bank index closed higher by 222.32 points at 7413.32 as SBI (4.71%), ICICI bank (3.61%), HDFC bank (2.35%) and PNB (1.80%) ended in green.
BSE Auto Index closed higher by 48.12 points at 5,045.10 as Tata motors (2.84%), Bajaj (1.70%) and M&M (0.57%) closed in green while Hero Honda (2.79%) and Maruti Udyog (0.47%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,721.93 up by 8.37 points as Dr. Reddy lab (0.90%), GSK (0.76%) and Sun Pharma (0.53%) closed higher while Cipla (0.76%) and Ranbaxy (0.29%) closed lower.
BSE oil & gas index closed in positive territory at 7,401.56 up by 110.78 points as ONGC (1.06%) and IPCL (1.94%) ended in green while HPCL (2.09%) and BPCL (1.78%) closed in red.
BSE IT index closed at 4,847.07 down by 26.12 points as Infosys (1.06%), TCS (0.99%) and Patni Computers (0.72%) closed in negative while HCL (2.54%) and Wipro (1.05%) closed in positive.
BSE FMCG index closed higher by 20.96 points at 1,838.68 as HLL (2.18%) and ITC (0.71%) ended in green while Dabur (0.44%) closed in red.
