The BSE Sensex closed the session with a positive note as it closed up by 115.19 points at 14,418.60 while Nifty closed higher by 46.4 points at 4,260.90. Of the 2,663 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,395 stocks advanced while 1,194 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 39.74 points and 73.85 points at 6,129.69 and 7,294.15 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index closed higher by 39.57 points at 10197.01 as BHEL (0.59%), Siemens (0.25%) and L&T (0.51%) closed in green while ABB (0.42%) ended in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10494.47 up by 252.46 points as Tata Steel (5.39%), SAIL (4.25%) and Hindalco (0.58%) ended in green while NALCO (2.73%) ended in red.
BSE bank index closed higher by 76.74 points at 7,680.71 as HDFC bank (2.89%), PNB (1.76%) and SBI (1.59%) ended in green while ICICI bank (1.14%) ended in red.
BSE Auto Index closed lower by 23.62 points at 4,886.84 as Tata motors (2.43%), Bajaj (1.68%) and M&M (0.11%) closed in red while Maruti Udyog (1.58%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,761.01 up by 27.40 points as Glaxosmithkline (1.26%), Ranbaxy (0.52%) closed in green while Dr. Reddy lab (1.11%) and Cipla (0.60%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed in positive territory at 7,834.68 grew by 231.60 points as BPCL (4.11%), IPCL (3.37%), Reliance petroleum (3.09%) and HPCL (1.53%) closed in green.
BSE IT index closed at 4,867.32 down by 55.79 points as Wipro (1.69%), Satyam (1.56%), HCL (1.30%) and TCS (1.17%) and Infosys (1.07%) closed lower.
BSE FMCG index closed higher by 37.66 points at 1,910.74 as Dabur (1.68%) and ITC (2.40%) closed in green.
