The BSE Sensex closed the session with a positive note as it closed up by 35.12 points at 14,453.72 while Nifty closed higher by 17.20 points at 4,278.10. Of the 2,650 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,437 stocks declined while 1,123 stocks advanced. The BSE Mid cap closed higher by 15.19 points at 6,144.88 while Small cap declined by 7.38 points at 7,286.77.
BSE Capital goods index closed higher by 57.08 points at 10,254.09 as BHEL (1.52%), ABB (1.23%), Siemens (0.78%) closed in green while L&T (0.32%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,531.15 up by 36.68 points as NALCO (0.74%), Tata Steel (0.73%) and SAIL (0.17%) closed in green while Hindalco (0.98%) ended in red.
BSE bank index closed lower by 21.62 points at 7,659.09 as SBI (1.64%), PNB (1.10%) and ICICI bank (1.12%) closed in red while HDFC bank (1.25%) ended in green.
BSE Auto Index marginally higher by 3.38 points at 4,890.22 as Maruti Udyog (1.16%), M&M (0.41%) and Tata motors (0.30%) closed in green while Bajaj (2.37%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,777.16 up by 16.15 points as Dr. Reddy lab (0.58%) closed in green while Glaxosmithkline (0.51%) and Cipla (0.17%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed in positive territory at 7,859.90 grew by 25.22 points as GAIL (1.47%) and IPCL (1.21%) closed in green while HPCL (1.64%), BPCL (0.74%) and Reliance petroleum (0.47%) closed in red.
BSE IT index closed at 4,849.51 down by 17.81 points as HCL (1.23%), Infosys (0.72%), TCS (0.61%) and Wipro (0.37%) closed in red while Satyam (0.28%)closed in green.
BSE FMCG index closed higher by 9.61 points at 1,920.35 as HLL by (0.47%) and Dabur (0.41%) closed in green while ITC (0.18%) closed in red.
