The BSE Sensex closed the session with a negative note as it closed lower by 90.46 points at 14,363.26 while Nifty closed at 4,246.20 down by 31.9. Of the 2,639 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,635 stocks declined while 926 stocks advanced. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed lower by 36.04 points and 49.22 points at 6,108.84 and 7,237.55 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index closed higher by 42.43 points at 10,296.52 as BHEL (1.56%) and ABB (0.42%) closed in green while Siemens (0.78%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,634.95 up by 103.80 points as Tata Steel (5.01%) closed higher while SAIL and Hindalco ended lower by (0.41%) each.
BSE bank index closed lower by 69.58 points at 7,589.51 as SBI (1.42%), ICICI bank (1.38%) and HDFC bank (0.50%) closed in red while PNB (0.93%) ended in green.
BSE Auto Index closed marginally lower by 52.81 points at 4,837.41 as Tata motors (2.60%), Maruti Udyog (1.78%) and Bajaj (0.54%) closed in red while Hero Honda (1.02%) and M&M (0.14%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,758.40 down by 18.76 points as Ranbaxy (2.38%) and Dr. Reddy lab (1.08%) closed in negative while Glaxosmithkline (0.82%) and Cipla (0.31%) closed in positive
BSE oil & gas index closed in negative territory at 7,769.23 declined by 90.67 points as Reliance petroleum (2.33%), IPCL (1.68%), GAIL (0.77%), BPCL (1.06%) and HPCL (0.15%) closed in red.
BSE IT index closed at 4,824.13 down by 25.38 points as HCL (3.29%) and Infosys (1.06%) closed in red while TCS (0.23%), Wipro (0.44%) and Satyam (0.62%) closed in green.
BSE FMCG index closed lower by 22.94 points at 1,897.41 as ITC (2.55%) closed in red while HLL by (2.19%) closed in green.
