The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive note as it closed higher by 116.45 points at 14,411.95 while Nifty grew by 34.35 points to close at 4,248.65. Of the 2,635 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,447 stocks advanced while 1,101 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed up by 95.98 points and 62.69 points at 6,340.02 and 7,420.44 respectively.
BSE Auto Index advanced by 64.59 points to close at 4,762.06 as Tata motors (3.53%), Maruti Udyog (2.32%), Bajaj Auto (2.04%), M&M (1.66%) and Hero Honda (0.44%) closed in green.
BSE Capital goods index surged by 141.85 points to close at 11,499.91 as Gammon India (1.93%), BHEL (1.73%), L&T (1.62%) and ABB (1.02%) closed in positive while Siemens (0.69%) closed in negative.
BSE bank index surged by 108.76 points to close at 7,790.27 as BOI (4.31%), SBI (3.85%), Oriental bank (2.08%), PNB (1.91%) and ICICI bank (0.37%) closed in green while HDFC bank (0.08%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,724.96 up by 113.37 points as Sterlite industries (7.98%), Jindal Saw (7.14%), Hind Zinc (6.96%) and JSW steel (1.95%) closed in positive.
BSE IT index closed marginally up by 3.70 points at 4,887.29 as HCL tech (0.42%) and Wipro (0.10%) closed in green while Satyam computers (0.72%), TCS (1.28%) and Infosys (0.14%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed marginally higher by 22.12 points at 3,803.34 as Cipla (1.33%), Dr. Reddy lab (0.97%) and Sun pharma (0.44%) closed in positive while Ranbaxy labs (1.91%) and Glaxosmithkline (1.40%) closed in negative.
BSE FMCG index closed up by 9.21 points at 1,811.90 as ITC (1.31%) and Tata tea (1.51%) closed in green while HLL (0.26%) and Dabur (0.19%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed higher by 6.78 points at 7,652.37 as IOCL (1.12%), IPCL (0.89%) and ONGC (0.18%) closed in green while GAIL (2.21%), BPCL (0.53%), HPCL (0.42%) and Reliance petroleum (0.31%) closed in red.
