The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it fell by 69.75 points to close at 14,186.18 while Nifty closed at 4,179.50 down by 18.75 points. Of the 2,574 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,456 stocks declined while 1,044 stocks advanced. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed marginally higher by 6.06 points and 1.26 points at 6,187.97 and 7,391.02 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index drifted lower by 22.60 points to close at 10,958.41 as Siemens (1.80%), L&T (1.19%), ABB (0.44%) and BHEL (0.15%) closed in negative.
BSE Bank index closed lower by 82.86 points at 7,512.09 as BOI (2.43%), SBI (2%), HDFC bank (1.53%), PNB (0.80%) and ICICI bank (0.22%) closed in red.
BSE Auto Index closed lower by 56.36 points at 4,812.08 as Bajaj Auto (2.84%), Hero Honda (2.30%), Maruti Udyog (2.10%), Tata motors (1.41%) and M&M (0.80%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,427.05 up by 12.58 points as Hindalco (2.96%) and Nalco (0.82%) closed in green while SAIL (1.70%) and Tata Steel (0.46%) closed in red.
BSE IT index closed higher by 84.93 points at 4,957.57 as Satyam (3.40%), Wipro (2.52%), HCL Tech (2.41%), Infosys (0.80%) and TCS (0.60%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,771.89 fell by 13.52 points as Sun pharma (1.58%), Dr. Reddy lab (0.58%), Ranbaxy labs (0.50%) and Cipla (0.38%) closed in red.
BSE FMCG index slipped by 30.60 points to close at 1,811.60 as ITC (2.08%), HLL (1.95%) and Dabur (1.04%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index soared down by 75.72 points to close at 7,393.11 as HPCL (1.99%), ONGC (1.11%), IPCL by (1.03%) and Reliance petroleum (0.41%) closed in red while BPCL (1.23%) and GAIL (0.14%) closed in green.
