The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it fell by 122.37 points to close at 14,063.81 while Nifty closed at 4,145 declined by 34.5 points. Of the 2,495 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,462 stocks declined while 959 stocks advanced. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed lower by 31.75 points and 48.43 points at 6,156.22 and 7,342.59 respectively.
BSE Capital goods index soared down by 117.04 points to close at 10,841.37 as BHEL (1.92%), Siemens (1.15%), L&T (0.66%) and ABB (0.52%)closed in negative.
BSE bank index closed lower by 70.84 points at 7,441.25 as BOI (1.75%), HDFC bank (1.67%), PNB (0.95%), ICICI bank (0.59%) and SBI (0.27%) closed in red.
BSE Auto Index declined by 111.37 points to close at 4,700.71 as Bajaj Auto (1.63%), Hero Honda (2.37%), Maruti Udyog (3.16%), Tata motors (3.50%) and M&M (2.68%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,242.72 fell by 184.33 points as Tata Steel (4.76%) and SAIL (4.07%) closed in red while Hindalco (2.97%) and Nalco (0.31%) closed in green.
BSE IT index closed higher by 29.24 points at 4,986.81 as Satyam (2.95%), TCS (1.20%), Wipro (0.42%), and HCL Tech (0.75%) closed higher while Patni computers (1.10%) and Infosys (0.18%) closed lower.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,741.15 fell by 30.74 points as Dr. Reddy lab (2.30%), Ranbaxy labs (2.55%), Sun pharma (0.89%) and Cipla (0.31%) closed in red.
BSE FMCG index slipped by 32.50 points to close at 1,779.10 as ITC (2.81%), HLL (1.07%) and Dabur (0.75%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed lower by 21.06 points at 7,372.05 as HPCL (3.48%), BPCL (3.90%), Reliance petroleum (0.46%) and IPCL by (0.27%) closed in red while ONGC (1.18%) and GAIL (0.72%) closed in green
