The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive inspiring note as it closed up by 200.69 points at 14,203.72 while Nifty closed higher by 56.95 points at 4,170. Of the 2,561 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,690 stocks advanced while 783 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 95.98 points and 96.64 points at 6,161.61 and 7,320.91 respectively.
BSE Auto Index closed higher by 38.81 points at 4,667.35 as M&M (1.98%), Maruti Udyog (1.15%) and Bajaj Auto (0.40%) closed in green while Hero Honda (1.65%) and Tata motors (0.47%) closed in red.
BSE Capital goods index surged by 247.64 points to close at 10,972.02 as Siemens (3.20%), BHEL (2.88%), L&T (2.78%) and ABB (1.86%) closed in green.
BSE bank index closed higher by 48.97 points at 7,417.66 as BOI (4.59%), SBI (1.91%), HDFC bank (1.42%), OBC (1.09%) and PNB (0.29%) closed in positive while ICICI bank (0.78%) closed in negative.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,567.54 surged by 292.27 points as JSW steel (5.07%), Sesa Goa (4.39%), SAIL (4.39%), Tata Steel (3.18%), Hindalco (2.34%) and Nalco (0.94%) closed in green.
BSE IT index closed up by 66.89 points at 5,033.76 as Patni computers (5.15%), Infosys (1.90%), Satyam computers (0.87%), HCL Tech (0.82%) and Wipro (0.28%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed in positive at 3,793.43 up by 45.05 points as Ranbaxy labs (1.83%), Dr. Reddy lab (1.70%), Sun pharma (1.63%) and Cipla (0.46%) closed higher.
BSE FMCG index closed marginally up by 7.87 points at 1,780.67 as Dabur (0.49%) closed in green while ITC (0.23%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed higher by 95.26 points at 7,492.62 as ONGC (2.15%), Reliance petroleum (1.63%), IOCL (0.71%) and IPCL (0.64%) closed higher while GAIL (1.58%) and HPCL (0.44%) closed lower.
