The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it closed lower by 82.57 points at 14,080.14 while Nifty slipped by 24.35 points to close at 4,147.10. Of the 2,596 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,414 stocks declined while 1,120 stocks advanced. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed lower by 8.05 points and 33.57 points at 6,172.87 and 7,316.88 respectively.
BSE Auto Index slipped by 40.83 points to close at 4,633.97 as Hero Honda (3.87%), Bajaj Auto (1.31%) and Tata motors (0.78%) closed in red while Maruti Udyog (0.33%) and M&M by (0.94%) closed in green.
BSE Capital goods index fell by 52.54 points to close at 11,104.24 as L&T (1.06%) and BHEL (0.64%) closed in negative while ABB (1.71%) and Siemens (1.69%) closed in positive.
BSE bank index closed higher by 17.56 points at 7,479.15 as ICICI bank (1.08%), BOI (0.29%) closed in green while HDFC bank (1.84%), SBI (0.40%), OBC (0.71%), PNB (0.43%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,423.60 lost 72.38 points as SAIL (1.95%) and Tata Steel (1.86%) closed lower while Hindalco (0.50%) and Nalco (0.44%) closed higher.
BSE IT index closed lower by 55.51 points at 4,940.61 as Patni computers (1.60%), Wipro (1.44%), Satyam computers (1.23%), Infosys (1.02%) and HCL Tech (0.77%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index declined by 20.21 points at 3,774.99 as Ranbaxy labs (3.89%), Glaxosmithkline (1.59%) and Dr. Reddy lab (0.20%) closed lower.
BSE FMCG index closed marginally up by 0.36 points at 1,789.09 as Dabur 0.45%, ITC 0.39% and HLL 0.21% closed in positive.
BSE oil & gas index closed lower by 24.66 points at 7,432.83 as HPCL (3.26%), IOCL (1.08%), Reliance petroleum (0.78%) closed in red.
