The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive note as it closed marginally higher by 20.36 points at 14,487.72 while Nifty inched up by 7.35 points to close at 4,259.40. Of the 2,645 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,501 stocks advanced while 1,072 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap closed up by 10.49 points and 51.09 points at 6,384.79 and 7,564.21 respectively.
BSE Auto Index fell by 38.97 points to close at 4,766.06 as Bajaj Auto (1.69%), Maruti Udyog (1.14%) and Tata Motors (1.07%) are closed in red while M&M (0.89%) closed in green.
BSE Capital goods index surged by 132.05 points to close at 11,830.08 as Siemens (3.64%), L&T (2.77%) and BHEL (0.71%) are closed in green while ABB (0.59%) closed in red.
BSE bank index declined by 4.66 points to close at 7,830.68 as BOI (1.54%), SBI (0.50%), ICICI bank (0.21%), PNB (0.19%) and HDFC bank (0.18%) are closed lower.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,748.16 grew marginally by 3.18 points as Jindal Saw (4.08%), Hind Zinc (1.07%), JSW steel (1.04%), Hindalco (0.56%), Nalco (0.40%) and Tata Steel (0.10%) closed in green while Sterlite industries (0.77%) closed in red.
BSE IT index declined by 45.85 points to close at 4,812.24 as HCL tech (1.67%), Satyam computers (1.53%), TCS (1.27%) Infosys (0.76%) and Wipro (0.41%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed lower by 30.40 points at 3,793.54 as Sun pharma (2.07%) and Cipla (1.76%) closed lower while Glaxosmithkline (0.31%) and Ranbaxy labs (0.18%) closed higher.
BSE FMCG index slipped by 4.97 points to close at 1,812.71 as HLL (1.46%) and Tata tea (1.23%) closed lower while Dabur (2.10%) closed in green.
BSE oil & gas index closed up by 19.72 points at 7,613.58 as Reliance petroleum (4.72%) and ONGC (0.87%) closed in positive while HPCL (2.85%), BPCL (2.78%), IOCL (0.44%) and IPCL (0.29%) closed in negative.
