The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive note as it increased by 102.23 points to close at 14,964.12 while Nifty increased by 30.9 points to close at 4,384.85. Of the 2,659 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,458 stocks advanced while 1,122 stocks declined. The BSE Mid cap closed higher by 15 points at 6,620.85 while Small cap increased by 108.09 points to close at 7,904.11.
BSE Auto Index grew by 21.51 points to close at 4,903.45 as Hero Honda (1.23%), M&M (2.36%) and Tata Motors (0.43%) closed in green while Maruti Udyog (1.88%) closed in red.
BSE Capital goods index increased by 157.74 points to close at 12,776.68 as BEML (4.87%), ABB (2.45%) and L&T (1.67%) closed in positive while and Siemens (0.30%) closed in negative.
BSE bankex index decreased by 64.22 points to close at 8,123.79 as ICICI bank (2.37%) and UTI bank (0.20%) closed lower while HDFC bank (2.10%), BOI (1%), PNB (1.01%) and SBI (0.22%) closed higher.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,775.02 down by 41.62 points as Nalco (1.59%), SAIL (1.47%), Tata Steel (0.63%), Hindalco (0.36%) and Sterlite industries (0.32%) closed in red.
BSE IT index increased by 158.54 points to close at 4,950.53 as Satyam (5.40%), TCS (4.44%), Wipro (3.02%), Infosys (2.85%) and HCL tech (2.46%) closed in positive.
BSE Health Care Index closed lower by 17.78 points at 3,820.76 as Cipla (1.92%) and Glaxosmithkline (0.77%) closed lower while Ranbaxy labs (0.51%) and Sun pharma (0.17%) closed higher.
BSE FMCG index closed flat at 1,855.68 as Dabur (1.78%), HUL (0.53%) and ITC (0.38%) closed in green while Tata tea (0.16%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index increased by 4.48 points to close at 7,621.47 as Reliance petroleum (0.53%) and IPCL (0.56%) closed in green while HPCL (0.41%) and BPCL (0.32%) closed in red.
