The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive note as it closed higher by 29.74 points at 14,932.77 while Nifty increased by 16.85 points to close at 4,356.35. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 21.97 points and 71.78 points to close at 6,574.90 and 7,914.37 respectively. Of the 2,704 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,696 stocks advanced while 950 stocks declined.
BSE FMCG index closed lower by 27.20 points at 1,937.07 as ITC (3.10%) and Dabur (0.39%) closed lower.
BSE Capital goods index grew by 64.67 points to close at 12,804.66 as Suzlon Energy (4.49%), ABB (0.35%), Siemens (0.28%) and L&T (0.17%) closed higher while BHEL (0.69%) closed in red.
BSE Metal index decreased by 97.57 points to close at 11,041.86 as Sterlite Industries (2.02%), Tata steel (1.13%), SAIL (1.06%) and Hindalco industries (0.38%) closed lower.
BSE oil & gas index increased by 85.29 points at 7,804.55 as HPCL (2.28%), BPCL (1.64%), GAIL (1.02%), Reliance petroleum (0.93%) and IPCL (0.73%) closed higher while ONGC (0.22%) closed .
BSE bankex index closed lower by 33.84 points at 7,929.12 as Yes bank (3.02%) and ICICI bank (1.90%) closed in red while Allahabad bank (1.38%), HDFC Bank (0.63%) and PNB (0.46%) closed higher.
BSE Auto Index decreased marginally by 2.32 points to close at 4,743.80 as Bajaj Auto (1.39%) and Mahindra and Mahindra (0.15%) closed in negative while Tata Motors (1.17%) and Hero Honda (0.44%) closed in positive.
BSE IT index increased by 20.65 points to close at 4,618.47 as Infosys (0.64%), TCS (0.50%), Wipro (0.32%), Satyam (0.31%) and HCL technologies (0.10%) closed in green.
BSE Health Care Index closed higher by 28.39 points at 3,627.16 as Glennmark (2.26%), Cipla (1.49%), Dr Reddy lab (1.44%) and Sun pharma (0.14%) closed in green.
