End Session Market Commentary

The BSE Sensex ended the session on a positive note as it closed higher by 286.03 points at 14,427.55 while Nifty increased by 101 points to close at 4,209.05. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap grew by 83.31 points and 137.56 to close at 6,342.78 and 7,832.36 respectively. Of the 2,766 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,928 stocks advanced while 793 stocks declined.

BSE Metal index surged by 387.44 points to close at 10,199.05 as Sterlite Industries (8.64%), Tata steel (4.50%), SAIL (4.11%), JSW Steel (1.53%) and Hindalco industries (1.25%) closed in positive.

BSE Auto Index grew by 38.19 points to close at 4,599.04 as Hero Honda (2.69%), Tata Motors (1.30%), Bajaj Auto (0.52%), Maruti Udyog (0.28%) closed in green while Mahindra and Mahindra (1.24%) closed in red.

BSE oil & gas index improved by 193.76 points to close at 7,620.91 as ONGC (4.54%), GAIL (2.88%), Reliance petroleum (2.52%), HPCL (1.57%) and BPCL (0.68%) closed higher.

BSE bankex index closed higher by 311.08 points at 7,662.45 as ICICI bank (5.57%), HDFC Bank (5.21%), BOI (2.59%), SBI (2.04%), PNB (1.84%) and Andhra Bank (1.10%) closed in green.

BSE Capital goods index advanced by 300.47 points to close at 12,330.37 as BHEL (3.31%), L&T (2.13%), ABB (0.96%) and Siemens (0.50%) closed higher while Praj industries (1.38%) closed lower.

BSE Health Care Index ended up by 51.29 points at 3,538.59 as GlaxoSmithKline (4.60%), Ranbaxy (3.49%), Sun pharma (2.74%), Glennmark (1.18%), Dr Reddy lab (0.47%) and Cipla (0.41%) closed in green.

BSE FMCG index increased by 32.56 points to close at 1,844.22 as HUL (3.23%), Dabur (2.19%) and Tata Tea (1.28%) closed higher.

BSE IT index closed lower by 41.33 points at 4,459.07 as Satyam (1.75%), Infosys (1.39%), Wipro (1.26%) and TCS (0.55%) closed in negative while HCL technologies 2.08% closed in positive.
