The market ended the session on a negative note as BSE Sensex closed lower by 84.68 points at 14,163.98 while slipped by 38.2 points to close at 4,114.95. The BSE Mid cap and Small cap closed lower by 54.51 points and 94.31 points at 6,105.11 and 7,424.39 respectively. The market breadth was weak as among the 2,665 stocks traded, 1,702 stocks declined while 905 stocks advanced.
BSE Metal index dropped by 88.93 points to close at 9,992.40 as JSW Steel (4.42%), Tata steel (1.60%), SAIL (0.39%) and Sterlite Industries (0.19%) closed in negative while Hindalco industries (0.14%) is closed in positive.
BSE Auto Index dropped by 10.33 points to close at 4,463.46 as Hero Honda (0.93%), M&M (0.86%) closed in red while Maruti Udyog (1.36%), Tata Motors (0.51%), )and Bajaj Auto (0.46%) are closed in green. BSE oil & gas index slipped by 126.18 points to close at 7,385.15 as ONGC (3.07%), GAIL (2.68%), Reliance petroleum (2.24%), IPCL (1.99%), HPCL (0.39%) and BPCL (0.23%) closed lower.
BSE bankex index closed lower by 163.63 points at 7,224.29 as IDBI Bank (5.21%), SBI (2.94%), PNB (2.58%), ICICI bank (2.47%) and HDFC Bank (1.74%) closed in red.
BSE Capital goods index slipped by 60.83 points to close at 12,336.67 as Praj industries (5.07%), Siemens (2.15), ABB (0.59%) and BHEL (0.32%) closed in red while L&T (0.51%) closed in green.
BSE Health care index closed lower by 39.40 points at 3,386.60 as Cipla (4.41%), Sun pharma (2.28%), Ranbaxy (1.57%) and GlaxoSmithKline (1.07%) closed lower while Glennmark (4.09%) and Dr Reddy lab (0.65%) closed higher.
BSE FMCG index advanced by 20.49 points at 1,862.39 as ITC (1.45%), HUL (1.02%), Tata Tea (1.01%) and Dabur (0.69%) closed in green.
BSE IT index grew marginally by 7.75 points at 4,356.28 as Satyam (1.25%) and Infosys (1.05%) closed in positive while HCL technologies (3.80%), TCS (1.64%) and Wipro (1.14%) closed in negative.
