Post Market Commentary

The markets closed the session on a negative note as BSE Sensex closed lower by 25.89 points at 15,590.42 and the Nifty slipped by 9.1 points to close at 4,509.50. The BSE mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 2.97 points and 37.94 points at 6,851.65 and 8,433.52 respectively. The market breadth was strong with 1,369 stocks advanced and 1314 stocks declined.

BSE FMCG index grew by 14.54 points to close at 2,046.63 as Marico ltd (2.37%), ITC (1.83%), Tata tea (0.62%) and united breweries (0.70%) closed in green.

BSE Capital goods index slipped by 45.42 points to close at 13,613.24 as Jyothi structures (2.68%), Alstom projects (2.38%), Suzlon energy (1.66%), ABB (0.97%), BHEL (0.65%), L&T (0.60%) closed in red.

BSE bankex index closed lower by 15.16 points at 8,095.69 as Bank of Boroda (2.43%), Yes bank (0.92%), SBI (0.72%), Bank of India (0.46%), ICICI bank (0.17%) and PNB (0.11%) closed lower.

BSE Metal index dropped by 77.96 points to close at 11,609.08 as Bhusan steel (3.49%), Jindal stainless (2.32%), SAIL (2.04%), Sterlite industries (1.77%), Tata steel (0.65%) closed in red.

BSE Auto Index fell by 47.71 points to close at 4,889.83 as Mahindra and Mahindra (2.46%), Tata Motors (2.15%), TVS motors (1.76%), Punjab tractors (1.38%), Bharat Forge (1.19%) and Bajaj auto (0.38%) closed in negative.

BSE oil & gas index decreased by 46.06 points to close at 8,185.77 as Essar Oil (1.62%), GAIL (1.19%), Reliance industries (1.10%), HPCL (1.02%), RPL (0.93%) and BPCL (0.67%) closed lower.

BSE IT index slipped by 5.76 points to close at 4,659.70 as Patni Computers (3.57%), I-Flex (2.32%), HCL tech (1.94%), Finance tech (1.07%) and Satyam (0.61%) closed in red.

BSE Health Care Index closed lower by 11.35 points at 3,705.68 as Cipla (2.35%), Glennmark (1.88%), Biocon (1.77%), Cadila (1.47%) and Ranbaxy (4.15%) closed lower.
