Post Market Commentary

The markets closed on negative note as BSE Sensex closed lower by 37.41 points at 15,505.36 and the Nifty closed flat at 4,496.85. The BSE mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 13.81 points and 43.26 points at 6,889.55 and 8,572.35 respectively. The market breadth was strong with 1,538 stocks advanced and 1162 stocks declined.

BSE Metal index surged by 146.06 points to close at 11,918.28 as Welspun Gujarat (5.35%), Jindal steel (5.16%), Sterlite industries (2.83%), SAIL (1.58%), JSW steel (1.33%) and Tata steel (0.37%) closed in green.

BSE oil & gas index increased by 60.44 points to close at 8,321.15 as IPCL (1.94%), RPL (1.17%), GAIL (0.21%) and Essar Oil (0.10%) closed higher while HPCL (2.37%), Indian Oil (2.12%) and BPCL (1.61%) are closed lower.

BSE Auto Index grew by 8.65 points to close at 4,875.78 as Bajaj Auto (2.58%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.14%) closed in positive while ashok Leyland (1.20%), Hero Honda (1.13%), Tata Motors (0.62%), Maruti Udyog (0.27%) closed in negative.

BSE Capital goods index slipped by 50.08 points to close at 13,664.18 as Crompton greaves (2.14%), Alfa laval (1.77%), L&T (0.89%), Siemens (0.60%), Punj Lloyd (0.49%) and BHEL (0.13%) closed lower.

BSE FMCG index dropped by 16.12 points to close at 2,081.93 as ITC (2.07%), Britannia (1.89%), Colgate Palmolive (0.68%) and Marico (0.92%) closed in red.

BSE Health Care Index closed lower by 19.26 points at 3,684.56 as Nicholas piramal (2.26%), Biocon (1.67%), Cipla (1.38%), Sun pharma (0.73%) and Lupin (0.83%) closed in negative.

BSE bankex index fell by 58.30 points at 7,979.77 as ICICI bank (1.83%), PNB (0.93%) and HDFC bank (0.52%) closed lower while IOB (3.15%), Canara bank (1.26%) and SBI (0.12%) closed higher.

BSE IT index slipped by 26.58 points to close at 4,443.98 as Mphasis ltd (3.62%), I-Flex (1.46%), HCL tech (1.24%), Satyam (1.03%), TCS (0.75%), Wipro (0.64%) and Infosys (0.17%) closed in red.
