The markets closed on positive note as BSE Sensex closed higher by 25.20 points at 16,347.95 and the Nifty closed higher by 15.2 points at 4,747.55. The BSE mid cap and Small cap closed higher by 16.10 points and 5.07 points at 7,132.71 and 8,876.07 respectively. The market breadth was weak with 1589 stocks declined and 1212 stocks advanced.
BSE bankex index slipped by 2.77 points to close at 8,688.68 as IOB (2.07%), Andhra bank (1.93%), Oriental bank (1.32%), SBI (0.60% )and ICICI bank (0.36%) closed lower.
BSE oil & gas index grew by 95.45 points to close at 9,019.56 as HPCL (5.04%), Cairn (4.89%), Reliance petroleum (3.35%) BPCL (3.54%), IOCL (2.56%), ONGC (0.43%) closed higher.
BSE Auto Index advanced by 42.54 points to close at 5,136.85 as M&M (3.93%), Bharat forge (3.82%), TVS Motors (3.48%), Tata Motors (1.36%) and Hero Honda (0.91%) closed in green.
BSE Capital goods index surged by 279.47 points to close at 14,392.46 as Praj industries (5.99%), Siemens (4.24%), Suzlon energy (2.12%), L&T (2.87%), ABB (1.68%) and BHEL (0.76%) closed higher.
BSE IT index fell by 100.46 points to close at 4,390.75 as Tech Mahindra (4.29%), Patni computers (4.02%), Wipro (3.27%), HCL (3.05%), Infosys (2.89%), TCS (2.12%), Satyam (1.91%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed lower by 30.08 points at 3,674.19 as Glaxosmithkline (1.97%), Sun pharma (1.72%), Lupin (1.36%), Glenmark (1.31%), Ranbay (1.31%), Dr Reddy (1.02%) closed in positive.
BSE Metal index increased by 176.97 points to close at 12,723.31 as Welspun (4.58%), Jindal steel (4.54%), Nalco (2.96%), SAIL (2.70%), JSW steel (1.82%) and Hindalco (1.66%) closed in green.
BSE FMCG index grew by 24.80 points to close at 2,165.71 as ITC (3.77%), Britannia (1.62%), Bata (1.20%) and Colgate Palmolive (0.27%) closed in red.
