The BSE Sensex elegantly improved from the day''s low on the back of the buying seen in FMCG sector and a sturdy buying emerged at the lower levels. The markets ended the day on green note after trading in red. The small cap and the mid cap index outperformed the broader markets. The turnover volumes were not very persuasive but the advances outpaced the decliners.
Finally, BSE Sensex closed at 13,189.54 with an incline of 11.80 points. The NSE Nifty advanced by 4.65 points to close at 3848.15. Overall, the market breadth was strong as 1576 stocks closed in green whereas 1004 ended up in red zone while 69 stocks remained unchanged in BSE.
BSE Mid cap and BSE Small cap indices grew by 41.86 points at 5,461.51 and by 71.37 points to 6,656.74 respectively.
BSE FMCG index closed at 1,812.72 up by 38.68 points as ITC grew by 2.90% followed by HLL 2.55%.
BSE Capital goods index inclined by 25.98 points at 9,239.97 as BHEL grew by 1.59%, ABB 0.74%, Siemens 1.17% ended in green.
BSE oil & gas index closed at 6,514.97 up by 19.06 points as BPCL grew by 4.82%, HPCL 1.53%, ONGC 0.79% closed higher.
BSE Metal index closed 95.00 points up at 9,000.01 as Tata Steel and Hindalco grew by 0.46% and 0.29% respectively while NALCO slipped by 0.17%.
BSE IT index closed 102.22 points down at 4,828.33 as Satyam (3.53%), Infosys (2.25%), Wipro (2.41%), TCS (1.62%) and HCLTech. (1.58%) ended in red.
BSE bank index grew 17.60 points at 6,598.59 as IDBI Bank 2.53%, HDFC Bank 2.05% and ICICI BANK 0.40% ended in green.
BSE Auto Index increased by 0.22% at 4694.27 as Tata Motors up 2.44% ended in green, whereas Maruti (0.52%) and M&M (0.63%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed at 3,701.46 up by 0.42% as Sun Pharma grew 4.65% followed by GSK 2.5%, Ranbaxy Lab 1.82% closed higher.
