The BSE Sensex ended the session on a negative note as it closed lower by 31.88 points at 14,467.36 while Nifty declined by 15.35 points to close at 4,252.05. Of the 2,640 stocks actively traded on BSE, 1,280 stocks declined while 1,274 stocks advanced. The BSE Mid cap closed flat at 6,373.70 while Small cap closed higher by 16.64 points at 7,513.12.
BSE Auto Index grew by 8.96 points to close at 4,805.03 as Hero Honda (1.28%) and Tata Motors (0.36%) closed in green while Bajaj Auto (0.14%) closed in red.
BSE Capital goods index declined by 38.73 points to close at 11,698.03 as BHEL (2.80%) and Siemens (2.02%) closed in red while ABB (0.24%) closed in red.
BSE bank index advanced by 7.44 points to close at 7,835.34 as BOI (3.52%) and SBI (0.71%) closed higher while PNB (1.99%), ICICI bank (0.43%) and HDFC bank (0.16%) closed lower.
BSE Metal index closed at 10,744.98 slipped by 75.08 points as Hind Zinc (3.62%), Sterlite industries (2.48%), Jindal Saw (1.47%), JSW steel (0.44%), Nalco (0.44%) and Jindal steel (0.43%) closed in red while Hindalco by (1.89%) closed in green.
BSE IT index closed lower by 28.76 points at 4,858.09 as HCL tech (1.57%), Wipro (1.27%), Satyam computers (1.07%), TCS (0.41%) and Infosys (0.30%) closed in red.
BSE Health Care Index closed higher by 13.77 points at 3,823.94 as Sun pharma (2.96%) and Dr. Reddy lab (0.74%) closed higher while Glaxosmithkline (1.57%), Ranbaxy labs (0.17%) and Cipla (0.12%) closed lower.
BSE FMCG index closed flat at 1,817.68. Dabur (3.01%) and HLL (1.24%) closed in green while Tata tea (1.16%) and ITC (0.23%) closed in red.
BSE oil & gas index closed lower by 74.43 points at 7,593.86 as GAIL (3.07%), IOCL (2.20%), BPCL (1.60%), Reliance petroleum (0.72%), HPCL (0.66%) and IPCL (0.49%), ONGC (0.45%) closed in red.
